Additions and Remodels . 2
This home was born as a raised one story non-decript ranch home. The floor plan was completely redesigned to create an open plan. A new second floor containing a new Master Suite was added. Brick and stucco replaced the tired siding.
Originally this home was a simple two story Colonial "box." A new wrap-around covered porch and entry was added creating a wonderful Outdoor Room. The second story was acticulated on either end to despense with the "box".
A New modern Kitchen and comfortable Family Room were designed and added to the home. Quarter Sawn red oak trim and cabinets provided the Prairie style interior the Owner loved dearly. Southern Yellow pine floors provided contrast.
This 1 story Bungalow was missing two important pieces to bring it up to 21st century expectations. Namely a Family Room and a well appointed Kitchen. 1 of 3 First Floor Bedrooms was removed to expand the Kitchen and provide access to the Family Room
Additional Living space was added over the Garage by expanding the second floor creating a new Master Suite. A Storage/Work Room was added to the first floor to support an at-home decorating business.
Two additions were added to this home including a second story over the Garage to create a new Master Suite and a Storage Room off the rear of the Garage. We took the opportunity to include a pergola style covered Patio beyond the Storage Room to help camoflage the intrusion into the rear yard.
A somewhat narrow home set on a lot wider than the home was in need of an enhancement across the street frontage. The Owner wanted to add a wide porch that was more indicitive of the River Forest, IL neighborhood.
All of the surrounding homes in the upper end Village of River Forest, IL are much larger than this modest farm house and they all have porches. The addition of the new porch solved both issues; the porch added mass and width as a method to bring the home visually in line with the neighborhood
